Essential Lithuanian Verbs: Present Tense Basics
Focus on the verbs you actually need: To Be, To Have, To Want, To Go.
Essential Verbs
You can't speak without verbs. In Lithuanian, verbs change ending based on "who" is doing it (I, you, he/she).
1. Būti (To Be)
The most irregular and important verb.
- Aš esu (I am)
- Tu esi (You are)
- Jis/Ji yra (He/She is)
- Mes esame
- Jūs esate
- Jie/Jos yra
Example: Aš esu studentas. (I am a student.)
2. Turėti (To Have)
- Aš turiu (I have)
- Tu turi (You have)
- Jis/Ji turi (He/She has)
Example: Aš turiu bilietą. (I have a ticket.)
3. Norėti (To Want)
Requires Genitive case!
- Aš noriu (I want)
- Tu nori (You want)
- Jis/Ji nori (He/She wants)
Example: Aš noriu vandens. (I want water.)
4. Eiti (To Go - by foot)
- Aš einu (I go)
- Tu eini (You go)
- Jis/Ji eina (He/She goes)
Example: Aš einu namo. (I go home.)

Common Mistake
Don't say "Aš yra". Always match the person.
- Correct: Aš esu.
- Wrong: Aš yra.
